Shabby French Master Bedroom Redo

Hello friends!
It is a snowy day here in Colorado, which I just love.

I recently did a total redo on our master bedroom.

Here is a sneak peek at the new wall color. It is Swiss Coffee by Behr.

Here is a before. I don't even want to share this! What was I thinking painting the walls this dark chocolate brown? I did love it years ago but I am so happy to be back to the light colors.  I have almost painted the whole house in the last 6 months!
I got rid of the over sized knotty pine furniture, the bed, two dressers and an armoire. Even the mattress had to go.

Another before. My right knee was even starting to hurt from all of the years of stepping up into the bed, it was very high.

And the afters......

The room is so much brighter and spacious now.

I am having a custom made headboard so when that is done I will share it with you.

I made curtains out of drop cloth. So many pinterest and blogger inspiration out there for that.

My shabby french corner......

The "crown" over the bed is actually a planter turned upside down.

Now I am going to sit back and enjoy this snowy day.
Thank you for visiting!

  3. I love your new room from the bits I see. I can see why you are loving the updated lighter look. You are a lot like my Mom and I. Strange that when we built this house 14 years ago, we had it painted beighe because we didn't know what colors we wanted. After about 3 months, we could not stand that beighe, so pretty much every room was painted a color. Over the past year we have slowly worked to repaint each room....and sure enough in each room we say "I cannot stand x color. What were we thinking?....and what color do we change it to? That's right. That same "boring" old beige we hated before. This time we like it a lot better.

  10. Oh, so much better, Shanon. Your bed looks so comfy. Funny how our tastes change. My living room walls were a mustard yellow for years. I liked it at first, then it slowly drove me nuts.

  12. Light and bright is so much better, isn't it? I like the idea of the drop cloth curtains. I've made several sets from heavy natural colored cottons. I didn't preshrink the heavy material for the ones on our sliding glass door. After they were washed I needed to add a 6 inch border in a sage and cream big check.
Re the display on the stepladder: my cats would love to rearrange that!

  23. Oh Shannon, this make-over is mind blowing! What a beautiful transformation. This room is so, so pretty!!! It completely changes the room. You must just love it!

You asked about my drying flowers. I usually just leave them in the vase until the water all evaporates. I usually don't add much water to them so that it will evaporate in a few days. I don't know if that is what makes the difference, but they seem to dry with much of their color left.

  32. Hi Shannon - thanks for the kind comment and for stopping in on my lil' blog. You have done an amazing job with your redo's and I have to say - I'm super impressed with the planter turned "bed crown". That is clever. Especially since I'm a flower girl - and I don't think I would have ever thought of turning it upside down and using it for that. Great Job! Have a happy spring and thanks for following along!
