New garden planter and my girls

I have been wanting a planter for my back patio that I could put herbs in.

I knew what I wanted, I just hadn't looked for one yet.

My sweet husband brought this home for me! I didn't even tell him I wanted one!

THIS is exactly the one I wanted! How fun!

It has a lovely pale green patina on the inside, I wish it was like this on the outside.

I didn't realize these planters were old wine barrels or for some kind of alcohol.

So, what do you think? Should I shabby it (paint) on the outside or leave it as is?

It was so nice out so the girls and I took a quick walk to the neighborhood park.

Taela, age 10.

Kila, age 8.

Jumping!

Underdog!

Riding bikes back home. It was only 59 degrees out but not so windy (we've had up to 80 mile an hour gusts!) so it felt great!

It's my Friday so I am hoping to do some more gardening tomorrow. Yay!

  1. Great photo's of the kids having fun. Regarding the barrel, I think they are great for all kinds of plantings. We live near a wine region and use these in our yard. Make sure you drill a big enough hole in the bottom for drainage.

If you shabby it, just make sure it's weather proof. We've left ours in their natural state and they weather beautifully. I've got a couple of photo's up in my gardening posts. I think, when you move to your block it'll look lovely as is. To be honest I haven't seen them painted, so it would be interesting to see how it came up.

  2. I'm jealous of the fact you might get to garden tomorrow! Looks like you had a fun day with your girls! I think I the paint queen would paint the planter but just my opinion, It is lovely the way it is too. Traci

  5. I had one of those big authentic barrel planters in Vermont--I put nasturtiums in it and let them spill over the edges. I like natural wood, but I think a grey/green/streaky/white would look good also.
I could only find a small new half barrel here--Wal Mart [sigh.]
